Monolith Soft has seen a steady increase in profit over the past few years, but last fiscal year was one for the record books for the Xenoblade Chronicles developers. According to a published report from Kanpo (official Japanese government gazette), Monolith Soft’s profit for the fiscal year ended March 2021 was a whopping 1.17 billion yen (~$10.67 million) for an increase of 138.2% over the previous fiscal year.
The Xenoblade series developer saw a 78.8% increase in profit during the previous fiscal year (ended March 2020) with a final profit of 491 million yen (roughly $4.5 million with inflation). During this period, Monolith Soft worked on the development of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and assisted on Animal Crossing: New Horizons for its parent company Nintendo.
To get a better idea of how significant the increase in profit is, check out the chart below that shows the final profit figures of the last eight fiscal years:
There was a massive increase in video game sales when the pandemic started, and the last fiscal year essentially covered all of it. However, while all sales were up, Monolith Soft specifically mentioned Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition as the driving force behind the record profit. Keep in mind that the remaster sold an impressive 1.32 million units in its first month, so it appears to have kept things rolling since then.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is immediately available for Nintendo Switch.
